Big Girls

My babies are growing up! I'm sure I'll be saying that every time I look at them and notice something different, or another inch added to their height, or another skill they're getting better at.

Gaby is no longer a crawler. At 10 1/2 months, she started walking! We knew she could already do it, but she just seemed so unsure of herself and the strength she possessed in her legs. One weekend, she started taking 3-4 steps. In two days, she was up to taking 10 steps. She has been walking for 2-3 weeks, and can stand up on her own (no support from anything or anyone) and take off! On top of that, she has found the joy (and pain) of climbing. She loves going to the downstairs bathroom to climb up the step stool. Her favorite, though, is going up the stairs. Sometimes she goes there intentionally. Other times, it's like a distraction when she's on her way to the kitchen. It's a game she loves, because she squeals happily when I grab her and prevent her from going up the stairs.

Gaby is resourceful, too! She knows to use objects to boost herself up to the coffee table, get on the couch, and find something on the coffee bar. Unfortunately, standing on the Sesame Street car in front of the coffee bar ended up giving her a nice bruise on her forehead. The fall could have caused a concussion, but we made sure she stayed awake and alert!

Savannah is self-potty training! This week, she has initiated going to the bathroom. She would make her announcement of either: "Mommy!! I need to go pee-pee!" or "I'm going poo-poo!". Then she goes and gets her potty seat, or just climbs right up onto the toilet and does her business!! What a big girl!

This morning, she came into our room with a pull-up in one hand, her jammie pants in the other and no pull-up on. She said, "Mommy, I went poo-poo in the toilet. Poo-poo on the floor. I cleaned it up!" She was smiling so proudly of herself the whole time. I praised her for a job well done, and, OF COURSE, ran to the bathroom expecting to find the surprise on the floor. WHEW! No surprise, but she did go like she said she did!
