A Potty Story

After dinner, I saw Savannah crawling/hiding under the table in the living room. This is usually her pooping time, so I asked her if she was going poo-poo. She kept insisting she didn't need to go. Still, I had her go upstairs to sit on the toilet. On her way up, she turned around (knowing that I would be right behind her) and said, "Don't come up." I pretended to stay put and told her I'd be up to check on her. As soon as she walked into the bathroom, I was up the stairs. Unfortunately, she had enough time to shut the door and lock it. All I could do was listen for her to put her potty seat on and pull down her pull-up. I kept asking her, "Are you okay? Are you sitting down? Are you going poo-poo?" She answered all of them with "YES!" A minute or two later, she exclaimed, "MOMMY!! I DID IT! I DID IT ALL BY MYSELF!!" I was excited! I asked her, "Did you put poo-poo in the toilet?" She replied proudly, "Yes, I did it myself!" I asked her to open the door, for I wanted to see this.

I walked in and saw the potty seat on the toilet. There was poop in the toilet! Then I saw her pull-up on the floor...with poop stains on it (thankfully there was no poop anywhere else). I picked it up to throw it away, only to feel how wet it was. At first I thought that she probably pee'd on it as she was taking it off. Then it dawned on me! Savannah has seen me countless times, removing her poopie pull-up and dumping the poop into the toilet. I asked her if she had pooped in her pull-up, which she answered "no" to. She looked a little guilty at my next question: "Did you poop in your pull-up then dump the poo-poo in the toilet?" She hesitated, and told me that she did not, that she did poop in the toilet. I had a short conversation about her lying, and that even though Mommy would be sad that she did not make it to the toilet in time, I would be happier that she tell me truth. So, there you have it. Although she did not actually make it in time to sit and poop in the toilet, she did answer me honestly when I asked, "Did you PUT poo-poo in the toilet?" YES, she did just that, and ALL BY HERSELF too!
